I have a 2002 ford f350 triton 5.4 V8. I just put front brake pads on my truck today. Started driving around and i could smell burning brakes. Stopped and alot of smoke was coming from my brakes on my front passenger side but nothing from the front drivers side. Replaced all the brake pads on the front. Any idea whats making them so hot? Will appreciate any help.
Could be many things, possibly the guide pins that hold the caliper and allows it to adjust its position as the pads wear, if they get rusty and stick the caliper is not free to back away from the rotor when you let off the brakes. You should be able to disassemble, clean and grease them so they work freely.
Could also be the caliper piston(s) sticking, sometimes rust and crud can build up inside the caliper, when you force the pistons back to make room for the new pads the rust can bind the pistons. This will require rebuilding the caliper, usually easiest and cheapest to just swap them out for a rebuilt caliper.
Could also be the brake hose, over time the hose can collapse internally. The high pressure from the brake system has no problem overcoming the restriction, but some of that pressure remains behind after the pedal is released and holds the brake on. This can be accelerated when servicing the brakes, if you let the caliper hang by the line then the hose can become damaged.

Had that alot on my 2006 F 350 5.4l - finally had brand new calipers put on the front brskes and that seems to have solved the problem. Before doing that, had new pads put on, the caliper pin greased, etc - none of that had worked.
I did both calipers even though only the passenger side was the one with the burning electrical smell (and heat and smoke).
I use water proof grease on mine, it's light green colored and works much better. I even use in on all the suspenstion and driveshaft U joints. My wife likes to think our Excursion can go through water without ruining anything.

Why wouldn't you use brake caliper pin grease, specifically made for the purpose? The stuff I use is a silicone grease made by Permatex. For the original problem, it's very common for the pistons to start to seize in older calipers. Just change them out.
I’ve been reading a lot of the threads about brakes sticking in here and I have too say I’m surprised there hasn’t been a recall or a bulletin considering the amount of issues with brakes. I too am having trouble with sticking brakes so I guess I know what I will be doing this weekend.
