95 Ranger clutch problems
The problem is that after about 20 miles of driving the clutch goes nutso. It will start to engage at random pedal positions or not at all some times. Some times the pedal won't even press down. Sometimes it will press 3 or 4 times and then not press down for 2 or 3 minutes. The prior owner said that he had had it towed to the Ford dealer twice and that they couldn't find any problem. Another dealer told him that the problem was a part that was internally lubricated and that it would straighten its self out if it was driven more. The little truck is nice and the dealer and the prior owner had the service records, but this is driving me nuts. Anyone got any suggestions.
PS. If it sits for 30 or 40 minutes it's good for another 20 miles or so.
Hello Nathan,Hope you will find some answers to some of you promblems here, so Welcome to FTE...Sounds to me as if there's a promblem somewhere either in the clutch master cylinder, or the slave cylinder. it sounds like there is air in the line, maybe some one at one point let the fluid level get to low before they added to it, or maybe the part has been replaced and when they attempted to bleed before replacing, they didn't get all the air out of the cylinder. Then again, maybe it's time to replace a worn out part, sounds to me like the slave cylinder may be going bad. So might as well check out the clutch, pressure plate, etc. if this is your promblem. If you see it has alot of wear or cracked from over heated, don't forget to resurface the flywheel if you replace the clutch assembly.. Hope this gives you a general ideal of where to start...Good Luck, keep us posted, Welcome aboard Nathan.....
