So I have a long trip coming up colorado to Florida and I'm starting my pre trip maintenance.
So here's the question I just cleaned my egr valve and it was nasty the top portion was completely
Plugged up and the upper intake area had a bunch of crud in it to so I got it all cleaned out the best I could but now my truck rolls coal like it has tunes on it any thoughts on that? and now it feels like I have even less power is it possible I screwed something up by not getting all of the crap out before start up or do you think it will clear up ? I'm just getting worried my truck is gonna get sick right before I have to move back to fl .any thoughts would be great
Before you put it back in, did you try to open and close the valve by hand? If so did it snap back shut or did it hang up? Were you careful not to get any carburetor cleaner in the holes on the top of the valve?
I didn't use carb clean I used a stuff called wax and grease remover a very mild solvent that works awesome and maybe I did get it a little wet in the holes
Reread the original post. Yes I would say that is your problem. Pull it out again and see if it is stuck open some on the bottom. If it is open and close it with a screw driver until it is shut. Make sure orings are good. Put it back in and keep it unplugged for a test drive. Power comes back and stops smoking then you need a new one. Clean the intake with a shop vac as good as you can and make sure you plug in the new one. If you can't let the truck sit while you wait for the new one keep the old one unplugged. Won't hurt anything until you get the new one.
