When ya redo her this winter put headers on Bud. Like has been said it is prolly
the best upgrade ya can do to an FE. Let Her Breath. FE stock exhaust is a bottle neck.
It's very restrictive and is why so many blow out and leak. And remember to gasket
port what ever way ya go. The biggest and best intake does no good if the spent gasses
can't get out just as fast as the mixture goes in.
Okay folks. I'm beyond frustrated. Like I said. The other day I cleaned the carb after putting a new distributor on. Put the carb on and it fired right up. Ran great for 30 sec and dyed. So today I rebuilt the carb all new. Same thing. Won't start. Acts like it's going to every once in a while but won't. Now I'm lost. I'm getting gas because I had a leak in the line and replaced it. I just have no ideas at this point.

You say a new Dizzy. Is it electronic also or did you guys go back to points? If it's points then the brand new condensor could be bad. There has been a ton of guys on this forum the past year that had/got bad ones. Is there a nice blue spark at the plugs? Don't get discouraged. Start at the beginning. We need fuel, spark, compression, and spark at the correct moment.
I'm wondering if she jumped timing. I put a bar on the crank and she moves quite a bit before the dizzy rotor does. If this is the case it sucks cus I can't afford that big a project. I find it hard to think it's the condenser because it ran great for 30 sec. I bet she jumped a gear. $&@!!!!!!
Take the distributor cap off and see if the rotor is turning. Put the timing mark on TDC and see if the rotor is pointing to #1 on the cap. I've had the roll pin shear that holds the gear on the distributor. That will put the timing way off if it sticks in another position. Good luck.
I also just put an old condenser on. See if that was it. Won't know till tomorrow though. If TDC Mark and dizzy is on one does that mean it's not timing?
That means the timing chain is OK. The timing gears are on the crank and cam and the cam drives the distributor. If the chain skipped a couple of teeth the rotor won't point to #1. Have you tried starting fluid? Connect a timing light and see where the timing is. 5-10* BTC is in the ballpark at cranking speed or idle. Hope the condenser fixes it.
Haven't tried starting fluid. Thought about it. It's like it wants to start but just won't catch. I know I flooded it the one time. I'm just in over my head I think. The most boggling part is how well it ran for 30 sec before it stopped. I was so excited and now I'm pissed. Can't try the new condenser yet,my neighbors will kill me. Thanks
So I just checked the coil with a meter. Turned on the ignition and put the pos on the pos on the coil and grounded the other. I got 6.1v. What should it read and could this cause starting issues?
Try disconnecting the + from the coil and putting a clip on wire directly from the battery and try to start it. Don't run it long, it'll burn the points.
Okay. I think it was the condensor folks. She fired right up this morning. So.... New dizzy, rebuilt carb, new fuel lines and timed right with advance working. Still want to bog, spot and sputter when giving it gas. Have to flutter the pedal to get her moving good. Can cruise at low rpm but nothing but crap when I put on the pedal. Where do I go from here? By the way, thank you all. Wouldn't have gotten this far without your help!!!!!!!!!
I found a tear in the rubber valve in the accelerator pump. But on replacing the threads on the cover bolts stripped. So now it's one thing after another.
