Personally, I prefer to pull the hose off at the PCV valve and connect the vacuum gauge to the PCV hose. It will give a better reading than connecting to a small hose like the Vacuum Advance hose. If the gauge needle just moves slightly over one or two inches Hg, that is not too serious, usually just carb adjustment or spark plug gap, etc. Hopefully, the needle won't be fluctuating rapidly across five or six inches.

Doing a Cylinder Leak Down Test to pinpoint a bad valve, cylinder, might not be a bad idea either.

So last night I took the carb off and cleaned it the best I could. The power valve was gun led up and I think it's bad. Put the carb back together and put it on. Started right up great. Ran great for about 30 sec and dyed and won't start now. I think she's flooding herself. Power valve???? Also before I cleaned to carb we swapped in the new dist. and it has advance now!! I bit the bullet and got a rebuild kit. Deffinately think it's a carb issue!!! Ran so good for those 30 seconds before she flooded. Float need was kinda gritty too. I'll upstate in a few days when the kit gets here. Enjoy your trucks for me since I can't!

After installing the new dizzy hope you checked for oil pressure as soon as it started.

Also it's a good time to get a manual so you'll know what's what when info is or how to do's little or big things.

So here's a dumb question from the newb! Thanks for bearing with me. I just came accross a set of rebuild and machined heads for a 361 motor. So do those heads work on a 360? Is there things I need to know? Like year and stamping etc. I'd hate to drop 150 buck on a perfect set I can't use.

I think they'll bolt on but unknown what compression ratio you'd end up with. I suggest investigating in the FE engine forum on the site. Or start a thread there.

The exhaust valves are sodium cooled, the valve stems are 7/16" dia VS 3/8" for the 360/390

And not any Fe intake will match up to the FT 330,361,391 intake and so on.

Yes they will bolt on and that's it. Then your screwed if your buying any FT Parts.

The exh heat riser port is in the center of the head, Where as the FE our off set from center.. Only FE to Fe

So far I've got 7 off 8 exhaust manifold bolts loose. Where the leak is the bottom bolt was hand loose. Probably why it leaked. I'm assuming this could lead to a warped manifold. Should I use two gaskets when I change it. I've read that guys do this because of a warped manifold. At some point I'll get new ones but right now I just need it quieter for summer and stop exhaust gasses from getting in the cab so my 3yr old can go for rides. Thanks

I never did but mine would always blow the donuts off after a year or so......I am a big fan of headers on the FE engine. Unbelievable performance improvement

Clean it, put it on a glass table top and measure, with feeler gauges, how much it's warped. If it's 1/16" have it surfaced at your local machine shop.

This is what should be used per my post #25 Exhaust Manifold Heat Shields
Ford used them with lock bolts washer it it's a must or they will work loose and leak
until the head is damaged.

A Warped intake can be dressed up with a belt sander it the table is long enough.

Ford Pickup Truck Exhaust Manifold Heat Shields - Aftermarket Design - 352, 360 & 390 V8

This is at Mac's auto parts web site but most auto parts can order them

Just so everyone knows this is for a temporary fix until winter so my kid can ride around in it. Once she's put away for winter the heads will be pulled and sent to the machine shop and new exhaust manifolds will be purchaced. I'll make sure it's right then. Just need to quiet it down and stop the exhaust in the cab so lil man doesn't get sick.

Also try to use the steel donuts for the head exh manifold down pipe. This is another area that caused a problem. The one's that come in a gasket set today are junk and don't hold up for the long run at all..

I've found some on ebay for cheap the last time I needed some. But some guys think they our Gold
