So I have a 2001 7.3 possibly will have to get a new engine now several people have suggested putting in a Cummins so I wanted to see what you guys have to say about this I know there is a company that that's all they do and it is popular what I don't know is what are the pros and cons what's it do to my modification ability and my power? Any input is appreciated
I like the Cummins engine, actually. I don't particularly care for its enclosure, however. If I was seriously going to consider an engine swap to something other than a 7.3, I'd probably be looking for a DT466 or a small two stroke Detroit, and a Fuller Super 10 transmission.

Don't bother. There's plenty of 6.0s that I would say do the swap in. Your 7.3 on the other hand isn't in my opinion an engine that needs to have something else between the fenders.
Your power level will go up easily, your fuel mileage will stay about the same, your mismatched parts will eventually catch up with you when something goes bad. If you have the money and want a toy... Go buy a toy. This is too much of a headache to go through for something that only proves itself over and over again.
Side note there is someone on this forum that is doing this swap right now but not from a 7.3 but a 6.0... Find it and look at what kind of things have to be done with it. If you have the cash to pay a shop to do the swap, get a real toy! Read my signature so you understand where I'm at on the opinion of the fence youre sitting on.
Out of curiosity. What do those people drive? I ask because when i first got my diesel I listened to a few people who never owned a diesel. Then i found this forum.

We have some two stroke detroits on some emergency fire pumps at work, boy those things sound sweeeeeeeeettttttttttt when they are up and rolling. I also love hearing them in the crew works boats for the oil industry around here.
i see cumaparts in fords for sale all the time.
it is rather funny, because they come here asking all kinds of questions, and are told not to bother because it is a waste of money, and they will never get back what they put into the truck only to get an inferior product. but they do not listen and go for it anyway.
then get their panties in a twist when they do not like the end result, and loose a fortune when trying to unload the heap of junk they created.
A 12V Cummins is the one motor I'd rather have than a 7.3L. It's simple, reliable, and can make a ton of power with ease.
But when it comes to an engine swap like that, it has nothing to do with being economical. To many parts to interchange and a lot of work to dial everything in. When it's all said and done you'll spend way more cash than dropping in a replacement 7.3L.
