Please help! I just noticed a grinding/rattling noise from the front end of my 2001 7.3 4WD. My wife helped me track it to the front passenger tire area. I had her move the steering wheel around and I don't see anything loose or out of place in the area. We have parked the truck so I can let the brakes cool so I can check the brakes and pads for anything loose there. We also noticed a "forced" sound coming from the front when I made the turn back into our apartment complex....not a grinding noise but it didn't sound like usual. Also the noise from the tire area disappear led during the 10 minute drive back home. Any ideas please help...don't wanna hear from my wife how Chevy is better!!!!
Update: I meant to say that we didn't hear the noise during our trip back to park it but I am still concerned that there may be amiss
Its very difficult to varify an odd sound of what ever.
But I would check the slide pins on your front passenger side rotor.
The are well known to fail.
Another one could be the whole wheel hub.
Just my two cents......
I had myself an odd sound coming from the front somewhere.....
It took about 1 year to find out it was a dryed out hub on the passenger side.
1year because it doesnt make this sound always and only for a short time, not to say some minutes....
Well with my father in laws help and a now smashed fingernail I am about half way through changing out the passenger side front hub and am also putting the rotor and new pads. I plan on doing the left side next weekend when I have another break so that everything is more or less changed out.
At least your father in law sounds like a reasonable person...

What went wrong with his daughter
Oh the whole family is all Chevy....mom, dad and two brothers...The only one's that are not are two sisters in law and myself not that I am too particular about what brand of vehicle I drive, I do love my FORD Excursion for the utility it provides....Where else can you get a vehicle that will haul 8 people and whatever junk they may need hauled behind it!

Sounds good....inspite of your thumb
But do yourself a favour and dont forget to service those slidepins. Take them out, get some fine sandpaper, and fit them again with some high temp grease.
Maybe put on some new rubber boots as well.
If you dont do them, you are risking your new pads and rotors.....
