Guys, is there any adjustment on the power steering to remove slack or would I need to but a new steering gear unit?
Seems as though there were a few different steering gears fitted from the options I've seen on Rock Auto site...not sure which mine is....just know it's power steering.
It helps if we know what vehicle you have as there are two different PS boxes available for 2wd. And as an aside, if 2wd, how does your rag joint look?
It's a 69 F100 Ranger 2wd long bed with a 390 and C6. I've only just become the owner but looks like the previous owner had a fair amount of work done to it. I know the kingpins were done about a year ago and when a vehicle tester looked over it recently they raised no concerns over the bushings.
I'll check the rag joint when I next get a chance and was also thinking I could have someone turn the steering for me in the centre play position whilst I look underneath and try and see at what point the movement of the steering wheels fails to be transmitted through the steering parts.
