trans / rearend question

OK i have a 59 f100 2x4. it had the 292 v8. the rear end is stock as far as I know and does not have the gearing tag on it. I have a new trans out of a 82 f350 that had a rear end with 4.53;1 r&p.. the original tire size was 215 85 16 I believe. What is the R&P for the stock f100 rear end? I am hoping it is like a 3:1 or near that so I can take the 3 speed with a granny and use it like a 4 speed.

Subscribing because I have a similar question. My 272, 4spd is comfortable on the highway at like 55, but I'd like to make that 65 if possible.

Data plate in glove box will tell you what rear end you have. Prolly not a 3:1 Not too fuel conscious back then and not many highways nor would you drive your truck on one anyway. I just sold a 3:1 not long ago to a member here. Should be a number on data plate under the axle section. Middle right of data plate. Look up that number. I have 01 and I believe that translates to a 3.7:1.
You can also figure it out by counting drive shaft revolutions and tire revolutions while you turn either. Should be between 3 and 4 or more drive shaft to one wheel turn. Viola there is your ratio.

Clear as mud?

I believe my plate on the door jamb has 01 on it. I don't remember anything on the glove box.
I will have to test the gears I have and then maybe move to a 3.5:1 or 3:1

If its a 01 I'm pretty sure its the 3.7:1 but look at my username.

Data plate should be on inside of glove box door. It least that's where mine is?

It should be a 3.7:1 unless someone changed it. Only way to know for sure is to pull the axles, drop out the differential and count the gears teeth

Rating Plate located on the drivers side A pillar (windshield post) or on the inside of the glove box door.
