How's your carb jetted?
I have a 272 w/ a 2bbl carb and it runs great pretty much everywhere in the RPM range. The problem is it is REALLY rich. Rich enough that strangers complain about the smell.
I'm not even sure how it's jetted because I've never checked, but any guesses as to what my main jet should be? I'm more or less at sea level.
