4X4 RAN

Here's a pic of the '59 I built while in Colorado. Long story behind that, even longer life as I used it extensively for years after that. Will try to find more pics, if anyone cares to hear about this thing! BTW, it's Arizona license plate was 4X4 RAN! impish

I'd build one of those in a heartbeat if I had one! Would not even consider my 77 pickup at all.. Nice!

I got this crazy dream in my head of a 70-71 Ranchero merged with components from some 87-97 pickups. Much of the frame and front suspension from a F250HD 4WD to get the D50TTB, a 7.3IDI diesel, narrow dually axle from a 93-97 C&C. Torino GT front clip, tubbed and flared fenders to get it low on large dually wheels and tires then put a fifth wheel hitch in the back.

You are also nice! Here's another pic, then! Built it in 1978, used it as my everyday hauler for years, finally gave it away when I was leaving Phoenix to live in the Missouri Ozarks, in 1999. (Dragged 2 of those danged heavy, 5.0L HOs back there with me, only 1 remained 13 years later, to follow me to Arizona). impish

Edit: This pic was taken in Indiana, when the "build" was 2 years old.

What front axle were you running in that setup. I'm contemplating doing similar with my 67

The engine (360), transmission (4-speed granny), transfer case, and driveline, including front and rear axles are out of a wrecked 1977 F-250. That explains the big locking hubs and 8-lug wheels.

Rear axle was easy, except for it's weight! Dana 60. The entire Ranchero frame is there. I used 4-inch X 4-inch X 3/8 angle iron to form a "subframe", welded to the chassis under the front coil spring pockets. Front truck leaf springs were supported at the ends of those angles. impish

Cool thanks. I didn't think the fullsize truck stuff was narrow enough, though maybe the hub to hub measurements are different between the older Ranchero's and the 67's

Isn't the '67 a unibody, Falcon based?

65 was the last year the ranchero was falcon based. in 66 and 67 the ranchero was switched to the fairlane platform, then to the torino platform in 68

There are some significant frame rails front and back, and my plan was to take a D30F from a cherokee and adapt it to the front end.

When introduced in 1968, Torino was nothing more than a higher priced Fairlane, so it used the Fairlane platform as did 1966/70 Falcon's.

Fairlane cancelled after the 1971 model run. Torino was replaced in 1977 with the LTD II

1957/59 & 1972/79 Ranchero's are body on frame construction, 1960/71 Ranchero's are unit bodied.
