Well fiddlesticks... Now the RR wheel is showing out of stock. I am trying to get all parts there if possible just to expedite the process. So you can just delete the waste gate? What kind of waste gate controller do you get? I'm assuming it just provides more boost at more ranges?
This is the one i got from Bob, http://www.dieselsite.com/19995-2003...ontroller.aspx . The upgraded controller prevents the waste gate from opening prematurely, thus "keeping" all your boost on the low end. The factory wastegate is believed to start opening at low pressures and robbing you of boost. The new controllers are better and keeping the wastegate closed on the low end. The one i linked to is adjustable so you can set it where you want it. I updated my other thread on my experience from this weekend. If you are already wet, why not go swimming? lol
I'm running a DieselSite Turbo Master w.g. controller and I am very pleased with it. It holds boost better between shifts and going down the highway it doesn't dumb boost and down shift anymore. Also in the EBPV sensor plug you can just use a 470 ohms resistor to keep from tripping a code if you go with a blank pedestal and hi flow outlet.
Here is a photo of mine with a T.M. w.g. 1.0 turbine housing and hiflow outlet
The van turbo was a nice direct swap. I found one on CL about 15 miles from me when I needed to rebuildthe factory turbo. $100 for a rebuild kit or $200 for the van turbo plus flange. It was a great setup at 8+ pounds of boost 0-8 it could have used some improvements.
Well, I ended up going to a local diesel shop that was highly recommended by every mechanic and manager in the shop I work at and got one of their rebuilt GTP 38's. they specialize in turbos, injectors and do some tuning. They supply a lot of the places that sell turbos around here. I got a reman unit for 788.44 after taxes. Not too bad considering they have them in stock and it was sitting on the counter waiting for me when I got there.
I went in to work this morning at 7, called Area Diesel Service at 8 when they opened and verified they had what I needed. Then, at about 845 I got a call from the hotel I left my truck at that I needed to move it ASAP because there was a crew there to re-asphalt the parking lot. I left work at 9, hauled a$$ to the shop to pick up the turbo (which was 30 miles out of the way), then drove 150 miles to the Excursion. Got there at 1, put the turbo on, wrapped up at 3:30, drove another 60 miles to pick up the new 4 wheeler, then turned around and drove about 3 hours back home. I'm beat, but at least it's fixed.
