Hey guys, I just put my engine and tranny back in my truck yesterday, and I noticed when I turn the engine via the harmonic balancer, the back spline of the transmission. will not turn. Ive tried in every gear. Is that normal? Or should I pull my tranny back out? (hope not lol) Thanks for any help.
C6, don't worry. An automatic stays in neutral regardless of what gear it's in until the engine is running.
Automatics work off of hydraulic pressure. Without the engine running, driving the front pump of the transmission, there's no pressure.
The only "gear" an automatic has that can be manually selected is "park". The reason automatics have a park gear is because, without the engine running, they automatically go into neutral.
