Check Engine Light

Hi guys. When you first turn on your ignition, does your check engine light come on and if so, for how long? I have some poor running conditions that I'm sure would ordinarily light the CE light. My light flashes for a millisecond. Most cars and trucks I've driven over the years have the light come on for at least one or two seconds. Thanks.

Yea I have a late 99 and my CE light comes on for a split second, than comes back on for 2 seconds. I tried it 3 times while I was typing this post. Get a quick flash than right back on for a couple seconds.

^^^^^ That's normal. It's actually about 1/8 second. Blink and you'll miss it.....

And the vast majority of running issues will not turn on the CE light. Obviously anything fuel-related. Even those things that might set a code will not necessarily set the light.

I'd recommend getting one of those ELM 327 Bluetooth OBD adapters off eBay and downloading TORQUE Pro for your Android. Very helpful for reading trouble codes as well as some live data. Inexpensive too. $25 for adapter and $5 for the app.

So when the key to first turned to run, the DTC light will flash as a self check?
