While driving down the road my engine light will flicker on then off. Check gauges and everything seems fine. The light only comes on long enough to get your attention but not long enough to know what light it is. Had to turn truck off then turn key to the on position so all lights would light to know which light it was. What could cause this?
A red engine light is a warning for low oil pressure and/or high water temperature. If it was a yellow check engine light, you'll need to pull the codes to see what the computer has flagged as a problem. What year truck is it?
The light is yellow and it only flickers (when I say flickers I mean it comes on and then off again. one time), not even on for a full second. Today it flickered twice in 20 miles. The truck is a 1988 F150 4x4 300 I6 with a five speed. Its not the "check engine" light. This truck has a "engine" light and a "check engine" light . Both light up with key in the on position. The gauges read normal when the light flickers. I thought that if there was a code the "Check engine" light would stay on all the time.
You can try pulling codes to see if anything comes up. There are some good instructions here, just use the jumper and leave out the voltmeter/test light and count the blinks on the check engine light: EEC IV Self Test hookup . You say it's not the check engine light, so there may not be any codes. I'm not sure what other yellow warning light there is other than RABS.
