I've got a 97 Expedtion with 88k miles. My O/D light came on and is flashing. The check engine light is not on only the O/D light is flashing. When driving at red light I turn engine off light stops blinking then about 5 mins later light is back blinking any ideas. I got 3 more months on this lease tring to hold it together befor I can dump it.
AFAIK, it's a transmission problem. The exact problem, I dunno - I've heard of the OD light blinking when Mercon is used in a Mercon V transmission, but I don't recall what the problem may be.
I checked the Ford factory DVD, and I can't find any references to the blinking OD light.
So does that mean take it to the dealer and get charged 80.00bucs to tell me whats wrong with it. And if I drive it I'm I messing anything up??? Thanks for the reply Fordcr and BigMattXXl.
Im having the same problem CIA is having.............The damn O/D off light keeps on blinking on and off. I know its some kind of code that its tryin to relay but is it something i can fix my self or would i have to take her in to the dealership and be stranded with out a car for a couple days... i love my truck but these problems are wearing thin.... can anyone tell me what that damn blinking is thanks...PLEASE HELP
I had the same problem, I own a 98 XLT Expo, I have about 81k miles on it. I took mine to a transmission shop and they read the codes and it said I had a 2-3 shift error. Once the mech. reset my computer it came back on after about 30 miles. But other than that I have no problems =)
I had the same problem with my Expedition at 28,000 miles. The problem was that the transmission was not switching two first – third gear. The only way that I could drive the thing was to place it into 1st and then 2nd at stoplights. Took it back to the dealer and they replaced almost the whole transmission to a tune of $2,500. They sis not install the new software, so before I got home I had to take it back again.
They fixed it once again, but it was still not shifting completely correctly. I disconnected the negative terminal for ten minutes and the problem was fixed from there. I am sorry to say that it is not a good thing to have the O/D light flash.
