tps problems
ive been threw everything electrical on the truck motor tranny and wiring harness I can not even work without my truck it is what makes me my money I have got to be able to rely on it every day and with it doing this I can't work so I have got to do something can't afford to take it to a trans shop its been down now for over a month already
typically when the tps goes whacky, the truck wont want to upshift or downshift at the correct times (and converter may not unlock or lock at wrong times.for example,if you nail it when running slow,it should unlock and rev.not lock and leaving you wishing you had more power.)
when you get fault codes and shifting issues related to the solenoid pack plug, the trans will shift late and hard and you may get one or more codes.this usually indicates the connector is bad or dirty.if the connector has been neglected with a broken clip for years, then there are good odds the pins down in,on the pack have corrosion and you may need a new/reman pack.this is what happened to mine on chip truck.since it's replacement with a new connector,it's been 100% issue free trans.
when the trans feels like it goes into neutral on you all of the sudden, and if you tried to keep going (which you shouldn't do.you should shift in N and roll to a stop) then the trans will really struggle to find the correct gear and it will bang/grind into one it deems necessary.the cause for this one,is usually a bad MLPS/range/n safety switch (all the same sensor.combo unit) or,and most importantly first,it's connector is old/brittle/dirty etc.
so in summary,if your experiencing all kinds of these issues and at random times, then you probably could use a new/good used/self built trans harness, pull and test the solenoid pack and even possibly a new/reman TECA.
if of course, after removing all sensors and connectors from main unit, the big connector down on the frame rail (where it splits off into psd box/trans) and down at the bulkhead connector etc.etc.etc.have been spotlessly inspected.sprayed clean with e-cleaner and then smothered good with dialectic/tune up grease.
guys with your issues all over the place like that, have went to new harnesses with aftermarket controllers.this way the trans will act like a good updated TECA (92-94 models) with no more issues because the harness is clean and they can calibrate how the trans shifts.
if you head to the yard (if your lucky enough to still have old vehicles in yards where you live) look for a 9th gen idi/e40d truck.grab it's TECA (it's removed from the engine bay.pull down the inner fender for it to clear) and it's entire trans harness.inspect.repair.clean.install.
we're SOL when it comes to buying a new trans harness.but you can source reman TECA's at your local auto store (buy an updated unit.use 1993 or 1994.search for my log truck thread.find part numbers for late model TECA's there) run your own new wires and re-pin your old connectors (or source them new/good used) but you'll need to learn patience and do a good job.if you do,these issues can be long gone for good.

E40D: The Importance Of A Clean Trans Harness.
TECA = transmission electronic control assembly
(the little control box that controls how the trans operates.100% stand alone in the idi trucks.it monitors/controls nothing with the engine.it reads it's rpm and knows how much throttle your giving it,but alters trans function only.)
all I said is that I don't have a tach never said I didn't have a sensor or it but ended up being a bad trans
