I have been playing with my timing to get the most economy. I get around 18 mpg at 9 Degrees.
The other day, i had to get my 8800 K 5ht wheel from the dealer and it seems to be a dog going up hills (not too steep).
I assume that the more advanced timing is, the better off the line and fuel economy, but more retarded will give me better pulling power.
Is my thinking correct?
do you own the timing meter? what other settings have you tried so far?
7BTDC is super crisp with snappy turbo spool and she has some grunt.over that, the only things iv seen personally increase,is just engine noise and exhaust smoke.
Yes I have a timing meter. I have not tried any other setting. This is the first time I am pulling this particular trailer. it is lighter than the last one, but it seems to labor a little more. I pulled the last one when timing wass about 8 degrees and it semed better than this time.
In the fall, i am changing the downpipe and I'll set the timing to 7 and see what happens.
I originally set my timing to 8 degrees, over time it has migrated back to 6 degrees advance and it seems to like that better. I'm getting the best mileage since I bought the truck and it running like a top, all things considered.
My truck is NA for what it's worth.
I would also go out on a limb and say every motor will probably be a little different. Even a slight difference in the timing mark or balancer for instance would make a difference in timing of the truck.
