Organ Donation Program

Cigarxtc--I can understand your concerns, however I have had 2 experiences with organ donating loved ones passing away. For one, your family does not in any way lose control of your body, the organs that are needed are removed and the body is sent to the funeral home your family requests, no delay in timing at all. The first was a friend of mine who was 22 and passed away 10 years ago, his eyes were donated (or the tissues thereof) to a young man in need, and we were still able to have an open casket funeral, he looked as normal as a dead person would, and saved the sight of another. Now my father who passed in January was an organ donor, but there was no "need" at that time, denial could have also been because he passed of cancer and even though he had no chemo. or chemical treatments. Organ donation doesn't mangle the body--often it's the same incision is made for an autopsy. The deceased is still capable of open casket funerals or cremation, they don't send you to a med school or into research institutions without your consent in your Will or the consent of your appointed Power of Attorney if there is no Will. I don't expect you to change your mind but thought I would add my two cents regarding your questions, which were well thought out and showed a great respect for those who have passed away.

Carlene - would you reconsider about the truck? I'll buy a box if you'll give me the truck.
On second thought, forget it. If you said yes, I'd have to kill him.

You can not libel or slander a dead man and you can not prevent anyone from doing nasty things to your corpse, even while you are on the table in the funeral home or laying in the grave you paid for ahead of time.

I get a bit of satisfaction out of knowing if I die suddenly in an accident, at least there is a chance some good will come of it if the organs are used to save or better a life. A parting gift.
