Wanting to get HID lights for my 2002 f350 im just concerned with who makes a reputable HID light and if ill have any issues running my dp tuner, since ive heard that hid lights "sometimes" causes the engine to shut off. Thanks in advance!
I've been running Spyder projectors with 6000k HID's and a DP F5 since November with no problems at all. IIRC the headlights with the upgraded HID bulbs were a little over $300. The headlights are one piece lights just like the 05-07 headlights so you have to either get a new header panel or cut it to make them fit. I just trimmed the panel with a Dremel Multi-Tool. It took about 30 minutes per side. There's a diagram on the Riffraff diesel website that I used that tells you exactly where to cut. If I were you I would either get projectors with HID's or take apart your headlights and paint the housings. My cousin has HID's in his factory reflective housings and he can't drive anywhere at night without having every car he passes flash their brights at him. Just something to think about. Hope this helps!

HIDs can cause the truck to shut off, i forgot the exact reason, but if you put a couple ferrite beads on the cable that go between the chip on your pcm and the switch wherever it's mounted it's supposed to solve the issue, worked for me. Here they are on Amazon
If you have a DP tuner and HID's please just purchase a couple farrite beads to be safe. This is an accident waiting to happen. See my original post from years ago. These are so cheap they should be included with every after market tuner. Especially DP https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post10177728
X3 on the ferrite beads aka RF choke. I got mine at Radio Shack. The HIDs caused a couple stalls until I got the beads on the cable. The ballasts powering the HIDs put out some fearsome RFI that messes with the F5. Or something like that.
I chose DDM since they were cheap (about $60 nowadays) and had a ton of install guides and info on their website. You want the hi/lo version so you will have hi and lo beams. The point of origin for the light source is slightly different than the OEM halogens, so the light pattern is reflected differently. That is why most people need to re-aim the headlights down after install. If people flash their lights at you, re-aim the headlights down a smidge.
I know several guys here are happy with Retro Solutions HIDs as well.
These two wants do not necessarily go hand in hand.
Headlights like HIDs that have a sharp illumination cut off can make it harder to see what the bright lights aren't shining on... whereas halogens with a less defined beam pattern that gradually slopes off allow the eyes to handle the transition between light and dark, enabling one to "see" better, even though the light is dimmer.
I hope that makes sense.
I have factory HID's on one car. If I were to order that car again, I can virtually guarantee I would never check that box again. I've had more problems with HID lights (genuine OEM, not Allibaba freight) than any other type of light I've owned, including free flashlights on a key chain.
My original Ford halogen bulbs have provided well over a decade of service with no issues. I haven't read of anyone's HID lights lasting that long without needing something like a ballast or wiring or igniter or now a ferrite coil. I can't "see" the point of signing up for those kinds of troubles.
