greetings from Gladstone
just re-discovered this site and will be looking for answers as I continue to learn how to work on my own truck. 1997 F-350, XLT, C/C, L/B, 4WD, 7.3L, 130,000 original miles. Bought it from Gresham Ford 7/13/1997.
I have already done water pump, alternator, front brakes, p/s pump bracket replacement, a couple of vacuum pumps, and have spent the past 2-3 days trying to find parts and rebuild my rear drum brakes (first time working on drums). Anybody out there have any tips on where to get parts for this truck? Yesterday I spent almost the whole day trucking around to Gresham/Landmark/Northside Ford to score parking brake hardware (driver side rear failed catastrophically on I-205), which ate all the hardware, blew a hole in the side of the drum, split the wheel cylinder in half, and broke pretty much everything inside the drum. I should have everything back together after work tonight, plus bleeding the system. Here's hoping it works.

As to brakes, your rear brakes are probably pretty close to the same as mine. I had a catastrophic melt down when a parking cable seized up. Unfortunately we were on the road so I made a serious mistake and limped into a Les Schwab, which I might add will not happen again. I'll have it towed to "Uncle Gypsy's Backyard Repair Shop" first, if I can't get it home or to the farm. But, that's another story.
Anyway, drums - shoes - hardware kit - bearings - seals and parking brake cables were all available at NAPA and O'Reilly's. Schwab had no problem getting the parts from NAPA and everything was in stock. And don't forget the brake tool. Beats the heck out of trying to go "cheap" with a pair of vise grips and / or needle nose pliers, specifically on the springs.

The 7.3 OBS forum will be a wealth of information for you. I refer to it all of the time while performing maintenance on my 7.3 Superduty.
Northside Ford is a good place for factory parts. Canby Ford can get parts too if you need factory. Clackamas Auto in Oregon City are good people. Their prices are a little higher than O'Riley's and AutoZone but they know their stuff and have a machine shop and they usually sell made in the USA parts unlike the other two places.
I've found Amazon to be good if you're not in a hurry for parts.
