Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. I picked up a '77 F-100 a few months ago. Got it mostly to have something to wrench on and teach my kids. It runs and drives pretty good but also has a bunch of small-to-medium "issues" that should be fun to tackle. I'm focusing on safety stuff first and was going to replace the brakes next. Any suggestions regarding where to source brake parts?
First off, welcome to the FTE
You really should be able to get any brake parts at your local Oreilly's, AutoZone, Advance auto parts store.
For the rear drum brakes, they will most likely want to know the width of the brake drum, and also the width and length of the brake shoes.
If you are doing brakes, it would be a good idea to go ahead and get a hardware kit for the rear brakes, and also to inspect the wheel cylinder's for leakage. It's pretty common for then to leak after they get a few years on them.
I see your in North Carolina. What part of the state, I'm in Apex, just outside of Raleigh, and Cary. You need to check out our North Carolina Chapter, too. We meet monthly for dinner through most of the year. We had a camping trip this last April, and have one lined up for October.
Put some pictures up of your new truck.
We like pictures.
Welcome to FTE, lot's of good, knowledgeable people here.
Agreed, you can source just about any mechanical part for these trucks at your local parts store. They may not have it in stock, but the local warehouse should. Just about everything is pretty common and easy to find.
If they say they can't get something for these trucks, I'd find another store.
