1966 Cab Mounts

1966 F100 SWB Styleside, 4x4, NP-435, 352

Guys, I need opinions......I have a set of replacement LMC cab mounts for my truck, but I have seen so much negativity with LMC's quality and comments that someone purchased some cab mounts and they pretty much failed within 3 years........I have searched the earth to try to complete the NOS pieces I have but I have not been fortunate enough to find a set or the completion to what I have.....so my question is who would be the best to turn to and other than LMC who would have these? Thanks, m.

For a higher quality replacement I would suggest checking with Dennis Carpenter. They seem to be the best source of high quality rubber and other parts for our trucks.

That being said, I purchased a set of LMC cab mounts when my truck was new to me and before I knew any better. My truck is my primary vehicle and the mounts have been in place longer than 3 years. No problems so far.

The PITA part will be just removing the old original hardware.

If you do not install , prep , prime , and paint correctly all of them will fail in time . any part is only as good as its install .

Personally I do not trust the EP ( electroplate ) black coating that many parts ship covered in and will D/A that off and epoxy prime and paint right away . also if you do not seam seal all around the joints moisture will get in and be trapped and rot the new metal way starting at the weld areas spreading outward .

I originally had the lmc mounts the fit is poor so I did not use them, I purchased mounts from dennis carpenter, the fit is perfect & much stronger metal. Also like tx stang mentioned remove the packing film(oil) and epoxy them inside and out prior too installing them

1966 Cab Mounts

Guys thanks for the thoughts, I have 7 of the 8 need FoMoCo absorbers, if I can't find the last one fairly soon, I think I will go to DC to order a set........as far as the fit and finish, this truck is getting a full frame off restoration, frame is powder coated and under cab is base coat/ clear coat with undercoat so I don't believe rust will be and issue........again, thanks! m

Definitely stay away from the LMC mounts. I got mine through them and installed them before others posted there experiences and pics of what happened to there's after around 3 years. Oh well looks like I'll be redoing mine in the future. Dennis Carpenter carries the good fitting/ heavy gauge cab mounts. Great truck BTW you should start a build thread or update your album. I am a huge powder coat fan I do it to a lot of my parts on my builds. Keep going the rolling chassis looks amazing.

Thanks for the information......I plan on posting the build fairly soon.......doing this restoration myself, I want to be far enough along before I post (I can keep the information coming quick enough to be interesting).......cab is going on soon, interior just about done, wiring/dash close to complete, rolling chassis done......it is getting exciting at this point and I appreciate all of the FTE support! m

1966 Cab Mounts - Discrepancies

1966 Ford F100 4x4 SWB Styleside NP-435 4 Speed 352

ND/Others- I am having problems with matching what came off from my truck versus parts I have received......My truck has the following:

In general from top down the 163 cone type metal washer, the 154 top rubber, the 155 bottom rubber and the 157 lower cone type metal washer. There are several differences with what I can find on these parts (removed from my truck) versus the FoMoCo parts book, one is that my lower cone type washer (157) is actually threaded (within the "cone") eliminating the need for the nut and lower washer for the bolt. When these two parts fit together (via compression of bolting the cab to the frame) the interlock of the two cone type washers create a set space of separation when tightening the bolt.......my LMC set of absorbers, that I would prefer to not use if I can find the NOS parts, have a metal bushing that sets the separation identical to that of the two cone type washers coming together, the LMC rubber thickness also matches that that came off from the truck. The 163 and 157 cone type washers are structurally sound so I do not need them.

Front Mounts:

The 154 upper rubber removed is approximately 3.5" O.D. and approximately 0.875" thick and the upper is marked "Front". The lower 155 rubber is approximately 2.4" O.D. and approximately 0.750" thick. Distortion over the years makes the dimensions approximate.

Rear Mounts:

The 154 upper rubber removed is approximately 3.25" O.D. and approximately 0.875" thick and the upper is marked "Rear". The lower 155 rubber is approximately 2.75" O.D. and approximately 0.750" thick. Distortion over the years makes the dimensions approximate.

Here are the dimensions of the NOS parts I have in hand:

C4TZ8100154-B 3.25" O.D" 0.875" Thick (Marked "Rear")
C5TZ8100155-A 2.25" O.D. 0.840" Thick
C4TZ8100154-C 3.25" O.D. 1.250" Thick (Marked "Rear")
C4TZ8100154-D Same part as above
C4TZ8100155-C 2.61" O.D. 1.400" Thick
C4TZ8100155-D Same part as above

C5TZ8100154-? 2.5" O.D. 0.750" Thick
C6TZ8100154-A 2.5" O.D. 0.750" Thick

I am concerned that if the upper rubber (154) thickness is not the same that originally came off from the truck, that the setting of the cab (at a different height) may mess with the alignment of the front radiator core support and front fenders???........The lower, if thicker, contributes to the vertical spacing and the two cone type washers either not coming together to set this distance or over tightening of the bolt..........I am wondering if I am missing something with this?

Help would be greatly appreciated, I am really anxious and ready to set the cab back on the frame! m.

1966 Cab Mounts - Discrepancies

ND, Thanks as always for the additional information.......I went back out to look in my shop at p/n C6TZ-8100154-A......it is correct and the entire label actually is C4TZ-8100154-A SP, followed with a Ford logo and underneath the logo "Service Parts". The label appears as old as the part, but it doesn't mean that someone did enter it wrong.

My Dad use to believe that anything in print form must be true, whereas, I question everything.

I guess my main concern is to change the thickness of these mounts of what was to what is deemed to be correct, this would change the total thickness by more than an inch (greater), so opinions/theories on this would be very welcome......maybe they will compress this much when tightened down?

Also the question of the 157 lower "cone washer".........have you seen these threaded?

Any comments would be appreciated, thanks! m.

C6TZ-8100154-A is not listed in the truck parts catalog, but it is listed in the car parts catalog...for Bronco (U).

1966/72 & 1973/79 Bronco parts are listed in the 1965/72 & 1973/79 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalogs.

1966 Cab Mounts - Thickness Discrepancies

ND/Others, I am still struggling with the thickness discrepancy of the 154 rubber cab mounts.

ND you are showing that C4TZ-8100154-B was replaced by C4TZ-8100154-C, however, I have (3) C4TZ-8100154-B NOS parts, they are all identical and about 7/8" thick.....I have more than three C4TZ-8100154-C NOS parts, they are all identical and about 1 7/16" thick (9/16" thickness discrepancy).

The part that came off from the truck were the same thickness as the -B part (7/8").

All original cab mounts and radiator mounts were 7/8" thick (uppers).

I am always interested in ideas about discrepancies, but at this point I only need (1) C4TZ-8100154-B.

Do you know of any inventory? Thanks, m.
