I've heard that you can replace the guts of a turbo and reuse the same housing. If this is so does anyone know what kit to get or what all parts are needed?
You can get the CHRA (center housing rotating assembly) or you can get the bearings and seals for much less. For the price of a CHRA you can almost buy a complete new turbo.
Ford just put a new center section in my turbo. I drove it off the lot and took it right back. They said it was in spec and I told them that doesn't make it right. I could only get 18# of boost and it took a 1/4 mile to get that. They are now taking the turbo back off. Diff. tech said the turbo has a problem. They could have put a new one on and saved a ton on labor and I'm now on day 8 of a rental on their dime. My 2nd ESP investment has saved me a mint.

Ford called this afternoon and said the rebuilt turbo is good and are looking for another problem. They replaced the vgt and now think maybe it is defective. Will hopefully hear from them tomorrow. Didn't want to hijack this thread but it seems to have evolved that way.
Got a call from dealer last night. They are putting a 2nd CHRA in it. Wonder what chance you'd have of getting the 2nd one free if you were doing your own work or would they say you screwed it up?
