speed sensor test

Im working on my sons 98 4.0 auto 4x4 ranger, Is there a way to test a trany speed sensor. Just put in a rebuilt trans and im getting p0720 code speed sensor malfunction and the od light flashes.

My 99 rear differential replacement speed sensor measured 1.9K ohms across the sensors two electrical contacts. The old one was intermittent open circuit.

hi there. have you checked the wiring to the sensor, and made sure its not rubbing and shorting to the body? i would imagine the the sensor should be reading a couple of hundred ohms resistance.
i have the exact same code on a mazda b3000 i have just bought, but this will not shift gears, and the speedo was reading the speed wrong. i was reading earlier and also email another member, and i have found out that a bad plug wire, or plug, leaking ac volts to the engine, and a bad diode in the alternator,or a poor ground can cause the same code. please let me know what you find. good luck, from a frigged rosetown sk.
