Advance has new 140A and reman 140A for 174$,154$. Gonna holler at Ed shortly. From what i gather my functional 110A Alt is minimal, not ideal. So let it ride until it gives me reason to upgrade?Just for info, what do you all think about the "tunes" on the ficm. All those SCT,bullydog, etc scare me and I do not desire to grenade a great running truck. The ficm tunes are different according to FAQ on ficmrepair.com in a good way.I do not under his explanantion as why? The Atlas 40 is tempting. Truck is 100% stock other than complete egr delete and coolant filter. No leaks skips hiccups or anything. Would I be asking for trouble with Atlas 40?
In the thread at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ion-bosch.html, there's a huge discussion on alternator sizing. As part of that thread, user MisterCMK posted a PDF showing amperage draws that the 6.0 places against the charging system. He gave us permission to use it - it's linked under #14 on our Maintenance Tips page, but is also at http://ficmrepair.com/alternator%20o...%20startup.pdf. The short answer is that there is a 230 amp draw after startup and seemingly a 65 amp draw just to keep the motor spinning. As the 110 amp unit essentially only does 65ish amps at hot idle, you can see that it is not an awesome choice.
You'd like the tunes. Which one to go with is hugely dependent on how you use the truck and what it is set up with. Check out the FAQ page for details, but of course feel free to call us with any questions as we'd be happy to elaborate.
To the point made earlier about other FICM repair alternatives, there are differences. There are places you can get your FICM supposedly taken care of for as little as $30. When looking at the alternatives, questions worth asking are:
1. Do they work on both sides of the module or just the amplifier side?
2. Can they verify that the software revision that you are running currently won't stress the module again following repair?
3. Do they replace the components that are the problem children or just re-solder what's there?
4. What grade of components do they use? Are they *at least* OEM grade? Do they offer alternatives far and away above what the OEM used?
5. Do they own multiple 6.0's themselves and able to help out with troubleshooting the CAUSE of the FICM's demise?
6. Do they have a huge following of satisfied customers here on FTE and, for that matter, all of the other enthusiast boards?
7. Loosely related, but do they also offer both OEM and aftermarket parts at prices that can't be beat anywhere to enable the ability to fully support you?
I've said time and time again that we aren't special over here, but there are differences in what you get between vendors.
This last post by Ed pretty sums up why everyone here raves about his service. I just had mine repaired by him with the Econo tune and can honestly say it has been the best investment I've made yet. His customer service is second to none. I just got back from a 1200 mile round trip with my family pulling our 10000lb travel trailer and the Ex ran better than ever.
