9" skyjacker lift question

putting a 9" lift kit on my 1979 f150 but can't figure out which block needs to be removed for the new block to sit. instructions state to add block on top of OEM piece but when i bought the truck it already had a 6" lift on it. i've included pictures to try and figure out where i need to place the new block.

If it clearly states to retain the factory lift block, then the bottom one in the pic is definitely not factory and is the one you want to remove. The top one looks like a factory piece, it will also have a piece sticking out on the inside that acts as your bump stop. You can see more examples in the thread here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tall-help.html

Just make sure it doesn't say the block goes on top of the factory spring perch, in which case you would remove both that are there now.

The pin on top of the block goes in the axle spring pad. Flip the block over, but first read on.

9".........really? Ok 1st off DITCH the current scary looking 2 or possible 3 (if you look close at the bottom 2) block set up for sure! 3 stacked blocks is a bad set up and 4 is even worse!! Even with the u bolt rings on the block, look at the lack of proper mating surface of the 2 current separate blocks.

If I just had to have a 9" lift, I would get all new rear leafs that are at least made to provide you that lift and have to only use the one OEM block or none at all.

With all that lift, 3/4 blocks will only be a leverage fulcrum that under acceleration will twist the rear leafs/axle and trash your ring and pinion angle and rear u joints.

I would look into some Deaver costume leafs springs or Atlas, that do away with the block all together, your chances of having banana springs are still 100 %.

Also any hard lateral acceleration/sliding (like in a wreck) or avoiding one ect...those blocks will pop out, your u bolts will snap like kindling.

And then its all down a bad hill from there with the wife and kids screaming all the way.

If Skyjacker does not sell a 9" lift rear leafs for a F150, get 6" and get longer front spring hangers off a 2wd that will drop it 1 1/2 in the front and then do a rear hanger flip for 2" if done properly.

If its a trailer queen show truck, do what ever and let folks laugh at you and your set up. Chrome them to get extra show truck points!

Might not be what you want to hear or the cheaper route, but a ton safer and better IMO.

9" lift? Means you will have some monster tires. Maybe want to ask about this, as i dont think it is recommended on a F150

And that block in your hand looks like 3". Did you explain that you already had a 6" lift? Maybe they just sent you a 3" block to add to the rest.

skyjacker sells a 9" lift kit. that is what i bought. actually got if from the link 77&79f250 posted.
http://4wheelonline.com/Skyjacker_73...stems.201660.0
i got the 9" lift kit with hydro shocks.

so i have new rear springs that im installing as well. i just didn't know which block needs to be removed. i am confused though because if i ditch the taller block on the bottom than the replacement block that came with the kit is shorter so it seems i'd be negating any lift. granted the new leaf springs are a little taller but losing the tall block seems counter intuitive. could i use the current set up with the new springs for more lift?

PM with Skyjacker tech line # and input sent. For the rest 318-388-0816, Luke said to use the kit provided 2" block on top of the (1) OEM block.

When I put the Skyjacker 6" new rear springs w/the axle shim on my red F250 I used the OEM block and had no extra to stack on.

What ever set up you need, the less blocks the better. If you do have to use blocks, get some (1) piece ones welded up.

Mud truck or not stacked blocks can fail ya.

I would say use what they say to use. If that means removing everything but what they gave you, so be it. Or if they say to only use the factory block, keep the anvil looking block. Last thing you want to do, that was a recent thread, is look too high in the rear.

^^ Yeah... that recent thread was me. Little did I know but the PO had installed a 2" lift using rear blocks. When I installed the 6" skyjacker springs I utilized that block. When I sat it down is just looked bad. I removed it and its all good now. Totally agree stacked blocks are not good. I should have know better.
