My evaporator inlet that holds the orifice tube was full of shiny glitter courtesy of the compressor; I had to resort to an orifice tube removal tool to get the damn tube out. However, the tool chewed up the top lip of the quick connect flare. Pictures below, click on a pic, then click on the pic again in the window that appears to get an enlarged version.
The inside of the flare cone looks fine, just the top and edge look chewed up. Is this something I need to care about, should I dress out and smooth out the nicks and scrapes as best possible, or can I just wipe it off and use it as is (after flushing, etc., etc.)?
That was probably the best thing to do cause those things are a booger to get flushed out. A condenser may be a good idea also. A new rec/dryer and accumulator is a must, but I'm sure you already knew that. I just spent 4 days flushing the ones on my dozer. If I had to buy them it would have cost over $2000! I bought and used all the flush within 50 miles but I finally got it clean and now it works great. Hope yours works good, too!
Yeah, I already had a new compressor, condenser, new receiver/drier/accumulator/whateverthey'recallingitthisweek, orifice tube, 134a rated O-rings and other stuff ready to go in plus a rebuilt hose assembly. I just looked at it and with all the other issues I just gave up and went to get a new evaporator.
