07 Superduty, Oxford white. I have been looking all around NC pick a parts for a decent replacement tailgate. I know more recent years will fit, with hinge mods. Question is, what is the most recent year that will fit with hinge swaps only?? Also, can anybody suggest a source in SC/NC/VA for a replacement??
Tailgates from 99-current should fit. They added a slight flair to the plastic on the top in 08+ as well as the Super Duty logo along the bottom.
Try finding truck outfitters. They might have some tailgates or beds that are brand new laying around from trucks that come in for a liftgate or utility body install.
Check with local truck outfitters. They usually have a supply of take-off beds and tailgates. Most will have tailgates that they'll sell individually since they install Tommy Lifts on some standard beds.
I have called around to numerous scrap yards and service body installers. Seems I missed about 15 or so that one local company had, but recently sold to some place in Ohio. Anybody had any luck with aftermarket?? I have read mixed reviews.
I just bought a replacement tailgate at a nationwide automotive recycler, LKQ. Check to see if they have a location near you. They're huge.
But, I'm having trouble figuring out how the lock mechanism works with mine.
The "recycled" tailgate's latch handle I bought didn't have space for a lock cylinder, so I had to buy an OEM latch handle that would accept my old lock cylinder.
Now, the problem is, I can't figure out how the lock interfaces with the tailgate's latch mechanism. I can't use my old tailgate as a reference - it's long gone. But I did pull the lock cylinder out of it prior to disposal.
