I think it should. I've seen people put 2008 tailgates on their early model Super Duties. Don't think the tailgate has changed at all. Maybe you could upgrade to the tailgate step and backup camera. Just joking. What happened to the stock tailgate?
Yes, 99-07 Super Duty tailgates are a direct swap, as are 97-03 F150 tailgates I think. The 08 tailgate will fit if you swap out one of the hinges or fabricate your own (there is a thread here with instructions). However, the 08 tailgate will have a slight bulge next to the taillights because the taillights for the 08 model stick out a bit further and the tailgate bulges out to match them (it's barely noticeable though).
Thanks, I did here that the 08 would fit with a modification to drivers side hinge. I sure like the large SUPER DUTY accross the bottom!
My old tailgate got bowed and bent when a forklift operator dropped 2200lb of railroad ties on it while it was open. Believe it or not, the support cables held!
I am looking at buying a replacement off e-bay. The business that damaged it paid an insurance claim.

I may have read wrong, but I thought Beerstalker's post meant you could interchange SD tailgates between 99-07 and you could interchange F150s between 97-03. I wasn't clear on whether you could interchange between SD and F150...
Yep, you are good to go there. The boss in the grain division is actually cruising around with a 150 gate on his 350. It still has the F150 badges and everything.
The tailgate on my 2005 f150 has seen better days. We have a local pikNpull yard and I wanted to see if any of the newer year models, particularly the ones that offer the step inside the tailgate, might be compatible with my 2005. I'm willing to do slight modifications but my fabrication skills are very limited. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Being in my 50s, this lady needs every advantage she can get to make climbing in and out of my truck easier.
possibly wrong forum, sorry
