I may be a bit carcentric (given the way people are often nowadays, who can blame me) but it would seem that if people are willing to buy a rusty old model T and turn it into a museum piece, then anything with a halfway decent body and straight frame with a motor that turns over and a tranny that spins the wheels is fixable. I can tell you first hand that most parts are readily available for our trucks, and if you are mechanically inclined and have internet access, you are more likely than not most of the way there as soon as you have the truck in your driveway.
I knew it was the ECM, when everything runs fine, then all of the sudden so many thinks start failing it's either a wiring deal or the ECM itself, I'm glad you found the cause.
I think you may have found a cure for many un-curable problems that nag some owners…
My son must have spent $5K (three rebuilds) trying to repair nagging erratic shifting problems in his Ram with a Cummins diesel only to find a different ECM with a software update fixed the problem.
