Hello everyone, I'm new to this board but am not new to working on my truck...I've put a lot of time, money and work into her, as all of you who own a ford probably have ! So here's my problem, after letting my truck sit for a good 5 days I went to start it on a rainy day. Occasionally before on a rainy day the check engine light would come on but go of and nothing would be different, not this time. It took me a good 15 minutes to get my truck started and to keep it running by itself, I had to hold my foot on the gas applying enough to warm it up manualy. After that I put it into drive and started to drive down the street when it coughed and the rpm's dropped to idle while my foot was still in the same spot trying to accelerate. This has continued to happen but now on the highway it will not run with my foot applying the throttle halfway, it either has to be full throttle or just a little but either way the engine doesn't race because the tranny won't shift. When it does shift, it has a really firm shift now whereas before it would be more of a slip than a slam. Also on the highway while I'm driving full throttle it will stay in overdrive but when I let my foot off a little it slips out of gear and revs like the overdrive is off, but then I can shut the overdrive off while its slipping and it will go into that gear and be solid without a slip, then I'll turn overdrive back on and it will finally go back in. I know this is a lot to think about but I'm thinking that its the engine control module and also some transmisson computer. Please help!!!

Time to pull some diagnostic codes from the computer. This will give you some ideas as to where to start looking for the problem. As i was informed by some of the wonderful advice lending people in this forum, Autozone (and some other parts supply houses)will do this for you free of charge. I guess they figure if they diagnose the problem you are more apt to buy the needed part right then and there.
Yeah I used to work at an autozone in Mass, and now I'm at school in New Hampshire and drove an hour to the closest one tonight only to be turned down because the guy was "to busy"...I was the only customer in the place. The store was open until 8pm and it was only 5:30, I was upset and told them I was going to call in a complaint to they're district office..The autozone I worked at was all about the customer, even if it was passed closing time you were supposed to not let the customer unhappy or without a solution...I'm heading back tomorrow to get the test done then I'm buying the part somewhere else.
