As soon as it gets battery, even with ign switch off, starter is running and remains running. Is this starter solenoid (fender wall) or the starter itself?
(1989 460 / C6 4X4) This just started today, after the Miata wound up in the shop... I first suspected the ignition actuator, but I pulled the wheel and it was fine. Put it all back together, When I reconnected the battery, key off, the starter was running, no FP at the rail, just cranked. With the key on, it started right up, 40ish psi, so I am not suspecting anything in the ignition circuit...
Yep, It was the solenoid. It's a symptom... The 2 possibilities are that the starter has worn bearings that don't like turning when warm, or the possibility my new rebuilt dist. has a bum stator. I can get a brand new starter from Napa for $80. The sound when trying to start hot is like something is really resisting rotation, the engine oil level is fine and it is just a couple of months old.
