Hello, guys, I'm hoping to get some information about the compatability of the T-85N with sbf, a 300. Is it just the bell housing that determines the application, I mean aside from the drive shaft length.
Old o/d tranny's there's not a lot of nos parts laying around when needed. So these are things to consider when doing a swap to yesteryears parts list. And if you don't know how to work on them is finding someone who would..

Yes, you can unbolt a T-85N from an FE bellhousing, for example, and bolt it to a 302/351W bellhousing, or, for that matter, to a 400M bellhousing. Here's where it gets a little tricky though. Depending on the year of the tranny and the other bellhousing, the holes might not line up. The tranny to bell bolt locations were changed sometime during the early to mid-sixties. Some of the trannies were drilled for both styles of bells. If the trans only has four holes and won't line up with your bell, you may be able to drill the other holes. It would be a good idea to do some homework before buying anything.
As mentioned, parts are not being made for these trannies. They are a pretty tough tranny though and stand up well under normal use.
