1995 6cycl 4.9 auto
wont start...pops and spits
replaced fuel filter and injector orings and the caps on the injectors, cleaned and soaked them with carb cleaner for two days, i have spark and have fuel with good pressure from the check valve on metal fuel line to the injectors, it has two tanks but only the rear works, pump sounds nice and strong pumps for two seconds like normal, the smog pump is bad and not hooked up, it has good fuel that i replaced in tank with injector cleaner, im at a loss and help would be great
upon start up for the first time it will run for two to three seconds then just spit and pop, if i prime fuel line with pump it may run for two to three seconds once or twice more
i got the truck for free mint body and well taken care of. it sat for 4 years started or so i was told every few months up till a year ago. smog pump is locked up so i took the belt off just to see if it will run, one injector oring leakedso i replaced them all, it wants to run but just wont...grrrr
my uncle has same truck so i compared everything the plug wire routing the firing order it's all like and in the same order, dizzy clean, spark at all 6 plugs, thanks for the help
Timbersteel asked if you'd checked for codes, and you didn't answer his question. That's an important question that we need an answer to before we can point you in the right direction. Do you know how to check for codes on your truck? Even if your don't have a Check Engine idiot light on, there can still be fault codes stored.
You said you have "good" fuel pressure. That engine needs something like 50+ PSI to run, what did your gauge show?
And you mention it won't run on one of the tanks. On that truck, each tank has a Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) which consists of a high pressure injection pump, a low pressure jet pump, a shuttle valve, and a check valve. If the truck sat with old fuel in it I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of the valves sticking and bleeding off fuel pressure.
no codes at all, drained all the old fuel in lines and tank, new filter as well, have not checked for psi on fuel line valve but u can see it flex and a ton of pressure builds up, if it sits for a day in sun and i try to start it will run for 5-10 seconds then nothing, thanks for your help!!
Ok, what do you mean by "no codes at all"? Do you literally mean that you got NOTHING from the computer? That's no good, because at a minimum you should have the 111 "System Pass" code.
Let me just ask something here... that is an OBD1 truck, right? The diagnostic port that you used to read codes is under the hood, and not under the dash? It should be OBD1 being that it's a 95, but I figured if it was a late 95 it could be OBD2 instead, like a 96, in which case it IS acceptable to have it give you absolutely no codes at all.
It really sounds like you've got a fuel pressure problem. It don't take much pressure to flex a rubber hose, so the eyeball method ain't too reliable here. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? If not, you can rent one from AutoZone for a fully refundable deposit. Let's get a gauge on there for an actual reading.
my buddy ran the scan tool, no codes showed up at all, im not sure of the date of manufacture date, the hose that is flexin is meatle gas line leading to the injectors, im gettin a gauge this weekend, im thinging its fule or ecu at this point, thanks for all the help i will post again in a day or two and let u guys know what i find out
