I don't have DRL's, those are the running lights aka parking lights aka first position on the headlight switch. I wired the LED's into that circuit, so they come on together (as do my fogs due to the jumped wires on the switch). Otherwise I'd have to hook them up to an ignition sourced power source so they'd turn on by themselves whenever the truck is running, regardless of headlight switch position. Didn't feel like doing that, I've got enough wires running all over the places lol. Plus being an LED that's recessed into the hole a bit, you don't really see them during the day unless you're directly in front of them so I didn't see the point. At dusk and at night they're very bright, more so than the amber bulbs.

I already mentioned this in my PM reply but for the sake of public conversation.... Just because a housing is being sold with HIDs DOES NOT mean it's the proper housing for it. The lack of any sort of projector whatsoever is a dead giveaway. If you really really want HIDs, for the love of God do it right.

If you want your truck to look better and have better light, my recommendation is simple. Throw some quality 9005 bulbs in the foglights. Get the one piece housings, throw quality halogen bulbs in there as well. Done.

The people running that site are idiots then. There is one single reflector and one single hole for one single bulb. Which means you either spend some extra extra cash and get an HID bulb that has a magnetic base that gets activated when you flip the high beams and literally points the bulb higher up, or you do what those lights are intended for and get a halogen or xenon bulb that has dual filaments inside the glass allowing for low and high beams. Recon's model of lights with the dual bulb setup, yes - those require a halogen bulb for the high beam and an HID for normal beam. The lights you're looking at? No. One bulb.

I used the bulbs as shipped nothing added.

I'm not really concerned about traffic tickets as I'm unlikely to get one, but after being told here that Mecdac's Excursion looks like a "trashy ricer", I'm fairly convinced I'm going to go without the HID bulbs.

After doing some research, the housings in question appear to be Anzo brand.

So what bulbs, specifically, would you recommend? I was going to replace all of them in the front (assuming the housing doesn't come with bulbs I don't want to reuse any of the old bulbs).

I'll throw another option into the mix. You can get a projector retrofit done and have the best of both worlds.

Before:

After:

Low beam:

High beam:

Companies all over the country do these conversions for you in any mix of mild like mine to completely custom with paint, LED rings, symbols, anything.

Blackbird customs is a company that will take an order test and ship them out as plug and play. I had mine done at lightwerkz in north jersey.

My projectors are these:
http://www.theretrofitsource.com/com...l#.U7b5phnD_qA

4300k xb35 bulbs. Rated at 3300lm. I don't have any troubles seeing at night. In hind sight I would've ordered the 5000k to match my 5500k foglights but thats just a pet peeve of mine.

I assume you still had to do some header modifications, right?

How much...you bought new lights and sent them out for a retrofit? Seems like that would be a total cost of over $500.

And to be honest...I don't really care for the look of your particular lights with the projector in them. (just my subjective personal taste not an insult). I get that you could do that to any light but it just doesn't look as good as the ones made that way. Again, IMHO.

Yes I had to trim the header panel but I will eventually be switching out for the 05-07 panel and bumper/grille combo

The projectors were 375 housings were 100. If you're handy it can be done for less then 500$. I had to have them done because I messed up ad couldn't get it sealed up.

I understand, they are different. I personally like the look and they perform better then my parents edge with factory Bi-Xenon HIDs.

While I have to lean towards Aaron's side towards the physical appearance, that output is insane. I love the sharp crisp cutoff pattern, especially for a retrofit - very well done.

Any reason you didn't go with twin's? With how big the housings are, I think it may lend towards a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

I didn't do twins because of the wiring involved. I also don't really like the recon lights that have the dual halos. And I've had no issues with output ad you can tell

An Excursion that looks like a "trashy ricer"? I've heard a lot of BS theories before but......... come on, really? I think he would need to slam it, add some neon (that flash with his jams) under the truck rolling on some 26's (with wheel size labeled on the fender) to get close to that description, ....sarcasm intended!!! (or did I describe a"ghetto sled"?). Either way, it doesn't fit.

So you are going to have me "SWATTED"... call in a knowingly false and fraudulent police report? Thankfully I am nowhere near OR.

There really are two types of people in the world: people that want to be left alone and those that won't leave anybody alone. We all know which you are.

Thank you for your worthless opinion from a guy with no pictures of his (ALLEGED) truck calling a diesel 4X4 Excursion a "ricer."

Well since I was asked for pictures of the Phillips Extreme Vision bulbs here you go. I took the pictures from the same location and within minutes of each other. I didn't realize I took a couple fuzzy pictures but oh well. They don't seem all that much brighter and definitely not what I was expecting but I am not ready to drop hundreds on headlights especially since I don't have fog lights and I will start there.

No, there is nothing false or fraudulent about it. Blue/purple lights are illegal, unsafe, and stupid. Anybody that thinks it's ok to drive with them shouldn't have a license. It's not about YOU, it's about EVERYONE ELSE! They are illegal for a reason. It's a safety issue. Other people. I couldn't care less if your truck is unsafe for your own ***. If you don't care about other people on the road you have a SERIOUS problem!

And yes, you put purple lights in an Excursion, you look like a ricer. Headlights are NOT something to color match to ANY vehicle that drives on the road.
