I don't know much about suspension. Getting new front shocks put on at a local tire place since my regular mechanic is backed up 2 weeks.
My X is aligned now, but they want to charge me for an alignment after they put new front shocks on.
Is it really needed just because they are bolting on 2 new shocks?
I overheard the guy tell the women in front of me that she should get an alignment every other month... I almost started laughing out loud, but didn't want to **** him off while he has my vehicle.
No, nothing is changed when you change those shocks. It's not like it has struts... Shop is trying to upsell you, and the service writer is an idiot for lying to his customers.

Thanks.
I would have laughed out loud plus he would have gotten a mouthful for sure, plus I would probably report them to the BBB etc after that.
Thanks everyone. I'm in the middle of a move and don't have access to even my cheap walmart tools, LOL. I might try to change the rear shocks myself soon. Great info on here, been reading all day!
If I heard them tell that to someone first they would not be touching my truck and then I would have stopped her outside to tell her to find another shop as this one is ripping you off.
I was quoted $500 to install my set of 4 Rancho 9xxx and steering stabilizer by a shop near me.... After a hearty laugh, I found another place that did it for $150 cash..

I would cause a big scene and let it be known that I hate rip offs..........but that's just me.
No you don't need an alignment because you replaced the shocks on the Ex. If you had a car and were replacing struts where they are adjustable and part of the alignment, maybe, but probably not. The service writer is trying to take your money.
