New shocks, fresh alignment?

Thanks guys on the help with the shocks. I purchased four Bilsteins. Now that I got those going on the big X, do I need a fresh alignment?

Thanks.

No. Shocks don't have anything to do with the alignment of the wheels.

Alignments are good, don't get me wrong. You have them done regularly but don't do it just because you put shocks on.

The function of the shock is to absorb the energy stored in the spring and convert it to heat. They support no weight or help to locate any part of the running gear.

QUOTE]
I would only do alignment if:
  1. it is pulling to one side (not a tire or brakes)
  2. an uneven tire wear
  3. replaced tierod ends, joints or bushings.
I have found that to adjust the caster / camber the top ball joint must be loosened up and an adjustable shim used to make the adjustment. If you don't have the adjustable shim all you get is a toe in setting. Easy to see the shim, just turn the wheel to each extreme and look under top ball joint nut. If you don't see a star washer assembly it is factory shim and never been adjusted.

So unless you have 1,2,3 above don't waste the $$. Jim

Maybe because they only change toe in and it gives them an excuse to find things they can sell? Don't really know just thoughts. Jim
