really started burning gas

93 ran. 4.0 170+k need help all a sudden engine start burn lot gas with strong gas odor need take to shop but concerned having drive it 12 mi to shop afraid catch on fire have take it in am need advice yall ASAP thanks

I'm not sure off hand if the 4.0 is the same as the 2.9 but they had a vacuum line to the FPR and when the FPR went bad it drew excess gas into the engine through the vacuum line.

The MAF might make it run rich so could the O2 but I'm not sure about the smell. When and were do you smell the gas.

smell gas in cab of tk. real strong when eng. is running did notice tail pipe was real sooted up real black

Have you checked for leaks? Do you smell the gas if you just cycle the pump without starting the truck?

found problem was pfr pressure was up to 70 way to much it dumped lot gas in crankcase changed oil filter cel went off new pfr not cheap but gota have it tk goin on 200k soon thanks kenoo
