fourwheeler, gas, cold weather ???

ok during deer season my 2003 yamaha grizzly wouldnt start, so i took it to a local small engine shop and had him take a look at it.

2 hours later i picked it up. he said i had ice in the carburator, and he had to clean it out and put some isopropyl ? or something like that in the gas tank to keep it from freezing.

ok it wasnt much colder than 10-20 degrees out, so i was suprised it froze up. well now, i just filled the tank and im afraid it might freeze again? ive heard it you put too much of that anitfreeze gas stuff in there it can burn up the motor.

right now its 16 degrees F here, should i worry about it or do you think i may have just have some bad fuel in there when it first happened?

by the way i leave the 4wheeler outside cause it wont fit in the shed with the plow attached

I use the 90 octane from Holliday. I have beed told that they have an antifreeze additive in thier gas. I have never had a problem with my 4 wheeler or sled using gas thier gas.

Go down to the gas station and get the gas line antifreeze that contains isopropal alcohol (usualy a red bottle). Do not get the yellow bottle with the brand name Heet (bad reputation).

Look at the bottle, if it says one bottle treats 20 gallons add about 1/4 of it (You have a 5 gallon tank on the Grizz) if it treats 15 gallons add about one third.

Keeping your tank full will also help to prevent moisture build up in the tank and thus in the lines. I run isopropal in all of my gas powered engines all through the winter.

This will greatly help with your gas line freezing problems. Also putting a tarp over it is a good idea. The sun damages the plastic and its just better to keep it out of the elements if possible.

I keep my Foreman 450 in our garage (non heated) It gets down to about 15* at night here and I have never had a problem with it (although the stock electric carburater heater comes in handy some mornings) It always starts on the first try though every time...

Why pay big bucks for isopropal alcohol at the auto parts store? Go to a grocery store and buy a bottle of the same stuff for a lot less money. Pour some in the gas tank and some in your windshield washer jug on you pickup. Amazing how much money they get for 'gas additive' when it's just alcohol with color added.
