My lock on the driver's side will not unlock. I can lock it with the key or the door handle, but it wont unlock with the key. It will unlock when I twist the doorhandle (inside).
I have had the lock out and looked it over, but could not find out why this is so.
Once in a great while, i will try to unlock the door from the outside and the key unlocks it like silk- no hangups, just perfect operation. Rarely will it unlock, though.
I recently went through this with my truck.
First I would watch the mechanism on the inside of the door as an assistant rotates the back and forth.
If your key will turn both directions but still not unlock, Remove the cylinder and inspect the rear of the cylinder. Your arm may be wobbled out and not allowing enough throw from the cylinder.
If your linkage is binding, use your favorite penetrating oil to soak the door latch locking mechanism until it move feely. Then lubricate it with White lithuim grease (I use the spray can type)
If you have to slamm the door hard to get it to close all the way your binding up the latch and it will make unlocking it hard for some reason. If this is your case adjust the striker out just a little so the door closes tight without slamming. I had the same problem and it worked for me.
