I run Powerslot, cryod rotors with slots on the front. Has anyone tried turning these down to get more service out of them?
I know they are hardened, but thought I would ask.
They are not hardened. I had a Powerslot that was a tad over a year old started to pulse. I chucked it up in a 15" engine lathe and faced .010 off each side. Like new now.
when i first got them i had gotten the wrong pads (ceramic), took a little longer but they eventually warped. had them faced and reinstalled with the correct pads and been running for about two years now trouble free. So to answer your question, yes they can be face just like a regular rotor.
Just wondered. Ihud, I have 18o,ooo on stock rotors and one went bad because I had a bad hub. I was looking for ART rotors but they can't be found I guess. Called them and e-mailed them and nothing works. I have been running motorcraft pads, so nothing but stock. Its hard to beat unless your running mountain roads a lot.
I had fought slide pins many times. I had greased them when I fist bought the truck 3 years ago. A few months ago I stated going through things looking for places to spend money. I found my right side pulling slightly when stopping. An inspection revealed a totally seized slide pin.
I ordered a set of reman loaded calipers and now I can, although don't recommend, stand on the brakes with no hands on the wheel and travel straight.
However, during smooth stops I notice a slight pulse in the pedal. No doubt a slightly warped rotor from excess heat.
I would not buy them again. I just replaced mine on Monday with stock rotors. I had one warp but now the layers of metal were starting to separate. Only about 40,000 miles on mine. Huge waste of money to buy cryoe'd Powerslots.
