Question on stepside bed mounts

I just put a stepside bed on my 79 and i'm wondering if there is supposed to be any kind of spacer that goes between the frame and the 2 center crossmembers under the bed? The bed doesn't have the correct floor in it just a sheet of plywood. When I set the bed down there is a gap about a inch or so under the crossmembers and the frame. I'm assuming the difference is in the flooring?

Mine has a slat of wood under the upside down U shaped crossmembers of the bed. If you need I can take a pic tomorrow.

The last stepside I had had the wooden blocks like you said but I didn't know if that was stock or just something someone stuck in it because that truck was a cobbled up mess.
