help. starter keeps slipping

Replaced Tue starter with them model number as before for my 351 m 4 speed tranny.

When I flip the switch to start it turns 1/4 over then stops. If I let it run it keeps grinding.

The fly wheel teeth are not warped or chipped and I can move it with a wrench. Also I can hand tune the engine.

I then replaced the "new" one again with same model number and it did the same thing. Engine will turn then pause, then grind.

Any ideas what could be happening

IF the starter is the correct 1, and installed correctly meaning tight then all it can be is flywheel. they dont have to look wore out to be wore out

You need to check the teeth all the way around the flywheel.
Because of compression, a V8 will always stop in one if four positions, so the flywheel's teeth can look and be good over just about the whole flywheel but still have a section that's bad.

I am having the same problem, and it seems this engine has had this problem a long time before I got it.

I need help... 68 F100, 360, C6... eats starters, and flexplates.
I have new starter, and new Flexplate. 184 tooth
