Hey guys, was wondering if anyone could help me out on this issue with my 08 F-250, my check engine light and the wrench symbol came on and put it in reduced power mode, took it to the dealer about a month ago and they found the fuel pressure was too high, so they said there was a TSB about it, plugged it in to his laptop, loaded a program in, cleared everything and it was good, last week the wrench started coming back but ran ok, now this week engine light back on, the wrench, and reduced power mode. They said it could be the high pressure pump sticking or going bad, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there is something else they are not telling me or something I can do. Sure want to know the facts before dropping money for a new pump!!!
Could I get the codes cleared and/or have them run the TSB update again to buy me a little time?
Chances are the valve on the pump is going bad, get the code read and if it is high again clear the code and run it, might be good for a while or it might throw a code right away. Can't hurt to give it a try.
Have to replace the whole pump, don't know if it will indeed hurt anything but if something grenades in the pump it will end up costing about 4 times more to fix.
I don't think the computer will let you drive it it over pressure or under pressure.
If light is on and wrench light on vehicle will continue to reduce power you can cycle the key and cel will stay on but wrench might not be on and that codes setting when of course pcm can no longer control fuel pressure due to sticking pressure control valve which is not serviceable will need high psi pump but usually the root cause is rust building on the pcv valve which becomes stuck from poor quality fuel by that time be best to put new high psi fuel system
