Unhappy High pressure fuel pump

2008 F-450 4x4

Anyone have any high pressure fuel pump stories?

Truck was running rough, thought it was the tranny acting funny , read the code and it seems to be high pressure fuel pump.

I havnt talked to mechanic yet but what kind of money and issues am I liable to run into?

I havnt talked to service guy yet but it sounded like they want to put a pump in , then they check for further damage?

I would just as soon not spend money on a pump before I know what else is wrong?

Wouldn't you think they would have a way to check everything to start with?

Assuming they pulled the fuel filters and there were no metal shavings and they tested the high pressure system and found no other bad sensors....they can also (through IDS) check the injectors.

I would ask them how they determined it and if they did any other diagnostics at all?

They flushed the fuel tank on mine and found shavings... if shavings are found then the whole fuel system has to be replaced. $$$

Ford should be held liable for that kind of failure.

unfortunately this is best handled by an insurance claim for bad fuel.

All of them have the issue. (the big 3)

Has there been insurance claims related to this?

Yes, contaminated fuel. A claim to the service station or insurance.

I didn't ask Tom I was in shock when he started talking new engine.
We don't have a lot of choices for shops here its a rural area but these guys have a decent rep so I'm trusting them a lot.

Its got about 200,000 km on it or 120,000 miles.

How about putting a Cummins in it? Wonder if that would be cheaper?
