I recently installed a set of Warn Premium Hubs on my 96 bronco xlt. I dont know if this is normal or not but after riding down the road for a while the hubs are scorching hot, i mean you can not even hold your hand on them. I packed grease in the wheel bearings and the hubs, and the hubs are in the free position. has anyone ever had this problem or is this normal?
I had a brake that was sticking on my 78 but it only made the hubs slightly warm to the touch. But if you touched right at the base of where the wheel touched the hub then it would be hotter. Just my $0.02
I didn't exactly pack the hubs with grease. I just slightly smeared some on for the fact of the moving parts that came from the factory with no grease. but anywho is the heat something that i should be worried about? as for the stuck caliper i dont think that is what it is because the truck doesn't have a tendancy to pull one way or the other. However, i will look into it.
I had a friend who replaced the bearings on his 83 F100 and didn't get one seated right and the hub would get so hot it would glow orange until it finally seized up on him completely!!! BTW it was his first attempt at replacing them the first side was screwed up second side went on fine.
