Working a separate issue that my other post. Parasitic loss is draining my batts every 36 hrs or so. I've narrowed it down to the GEM. There's one circuit that is causing the battery drain so I'll have to replace the darned thing. Trouble is, this part has been impossible to locate, new, refurbished or other. Actually, I did find one at a dealer in Colorado but it's already spoken for.
One solution is to remove mine, send it in for refurbishing and then reinstall. This means I'd be without the truck for about 6 weeks and that's not viable during the winter in Northern Italy.
I've been told from someone very reputable "When it comes to GEM modules you can use almost any of them and they can just be reprogrammed once in your vehicle" Unfortunately I cannot verify this info and I don't want to gamble with my $.
Does anyone know where this part is located? Appreciate any assistance.
Ford dealer claims your part number supercedes to 1C3Z-14B205-EA. There is only 1 dealer in the USA that shows to have it. As of the time I made this post, they verified they do have it on their shelf. The dealer is Bob Allen Ford in Kansas 913-381-2999.
As far as whether or not all gems will work with programming, that is not true. But there are a lot of them that will interchange. If you can get the number off your old unit, then you can compare compatibility.
If we break down the example 1C3Z-14B205-EA, the most important number in the part number is the second set of numbers (14B205) that must match. The prefix (1C3Z) 1=2001 year made, C3=medium duty truck, Z=service part (original part will probably be a T instead of Z). The last 2 numbers= the revision number of the part that typically starts with an A and keeps increasing with latest revisions).
Thank you SO MUCH! The information about the break down is excellent. I figured there was a code breakdown but no idea where to acquire it. Another thanks for locating that part I wasn't having any luck. It's on its way now.
Well I woke up this morning and got a message from the Ford dealer and they were needing to talk to me about a part they said they had in stock. That's all the message said so that doesn't sound too good. I'm guessing that I'm out of luck. I'll have to wait about 9 hours to call and find out the real deal.
Part update. They didn't have one in stock though their computer said they did. Aaron spoke to the parts manager, explained the problem and where I was located. The parts manager then worked through a company that reconditions GEMs and is having one prepped for me. The delay should take about a week but the part is supposed to eventually go out around the end of next week. Only downside is that these parts are so hard to come by that the reconditioned part costs as much as the original part that was supposed to be in stock. I guess I gotta pay to play.

The dealer is Bob Allen Ford in Kansas 913-381-2999. Be prepared for sticker shock, because Bob "Snake" Allen wants MEGA-BUCKS for obsolete parts!
Well I tore it apart today and found the actual part # on the truck. 1C3T-14B205-EB
This is not the part number, it's the ID engineering number marked on the part. With a Ford Master Cross Reference Catalog, ID numbers can be crossed over to Ford part numbers.
There are no Ford part numbers marked on parts after 1956, just casting or ID engineering numbers, when applicable.
Sorry if I gave you bad information about Allen Ford having it in stock. I was at the Ford dealer parts dept on Jan. 18 for another reason, so I asked him to look up your number. He gave me the info and phone number for Allen Ford. I called Allen and asked the parts guy to make sure he had it, and he said he did.
If you still have trouble getting a new or refurbished unit from Ford, you can search used at Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market (many of the wrecking yards have their inventory on this site) It is under computer non engine, and then subcategory as multifunction computer. Maybe get a used one and have it sent to have it refurbished before shipping to Italy. Some of the shops that refurbish them should also have bench programming capability. They should be able to program it to your Excursion's vin, then it will be plug and play when you get it without needing reprogramming. Only thing you should need to do is reprogram your keyless entry which you can do yourself.
Now if you find a good used one that came out of an excursion with the same options as yours, then it should work and not need programming. I have swapped many myself with success because I have upgraded XL trucks to XLT or Lariat trucks by using a body wiring harness from a donor truck and used the GEM from the donor truck so that all the power options would work and did not have to reprogram GEM.

Wait, what??
Bill, does that include the numbers stamped into the leaf springs?
I've contacted several parts guys that are good (maybe not quite up to the same speed you and Brian Cool are at, but still good guys), regarding the engineering numbers stamped into the leaf springs. They've all said they are not aware of a cross reference list where that spring info could be found by using the engineering numbers.
Were they wrong? Does the catalog you referenced have this info?
GEM Module is currently in transit. Wondering if I should replace the fuse box at the same time and if so, what the part number is and where I can get one
If you have trouble finding a fuse box, hollar at me. I'll get you one from the Super Duty graveyard nearby. They have several, and I bet I can get a deal on it. I assume you are using an FPO?
Did you open your fuse box up and look for water intrusion?
