302 or 289?
I just bought a stepside. It is in pieces. I want to get the engine running first. I removed the starter and found D4DE-6015-BA. It is a 77 truck but don't know if the engine is original. The door tag says it should be a 302. The perches are in place with bolts, not rivets. The intake says 289 on it. I have read a lot on this site about the D4DE in raised casting over the starter is not a good indicator of the year. I need to know because I need to buy a Duraspark for it. One did not come with the truck. It does have 6 bolts for valve covers. Any help would be great.

302 or 289
I have somewhat answered my own question. I woke about an hour ago and realized that the 289 was not produced in 74 so the engine I have should be a 302. Still the question is which Duraspark do I buy?
