Question on a 302

Is there a way to identify the year on a 302 engine?

I supposedly have a 68-302, but I'm not sure that it is.

look on the block by the starter there should be a number stamped into the block...also look at the first post on this forum.....

number should look like C8OE or something like that...

Also Ben, if the top of the engine has never been disturbed there was a metal tag secured by one the bolts that holds the coil. That tag has all pertinant info stamped on it. All too often someone tosses the tag when working on it over the years, but I frequently find them still in place...

Thanks Dan. No tag. Previous owner(s) took off the tag.

If I found a tag for a Boss 302 engine and attached it to my 302, would it make it a Boss 302 engine?
